I am currently a primary school teacher with 2 years of experience in year 4 and 3 years of experience teaching in year 6. I am currently the maths subject lead at my school and have a wealth of training and experience regarding maths. I have recently taken part in an OFSTED review which involved a deep dive into maths, resulting in an outstanding rating for the curriculum. I have also been part of an external writing moderation and have had extensive training in assessing writing. When completing my teacher training I completed it with a maths specialism. I have a wealth of experience working with children with additional needs both in the school setting as well as a part-time job working as a play worker at a day centre for children with additional needs. This involved playing with the children as well as providing support for families.

As an experienced teacher/tutor, I am currently working as the Achievement Director of Maths in a central London secondary school. Leading the Maths department over the last few years has been a challenge as the majority of the students come from low socio-economic backgrounds with very little ambition or drive. However, my maths department set out to change the stigma behind the chances of success for such students. With the right guidance, support and encouragement, on average, GCSE students in my school now obtain at least ONE grade better than students at schools with similar intakes. I have 3 degrees MEng, MBA and a PGCE. I initially started tutoring whilst at Queen Mary University by helping out students a year or more below me in their respective course. I really loved the experience as it gave me plenty of satisfaction knowing that I was helping shape the careers of my peers. From there I started tutoring more and more in my spare time. This eventually led me into teaching. Maths has always been a passion for me but I understand that for some students it can be cumbersome and anxiety-inducing. I always endeavour to make my students feel comfortable through well-planned lessons to overcome common misconceptions and I teach with a personable attitude showing care and diligence to each student. I have taught students of various abilities and learning needs including SEN, dyslexia, dyspraxia, high achievers and Oxbridge candidates. I am always able to adapt my teaching style to suit an individual`s needs. I have been trained to use research-based tools to inform teaching, a system that my department has been extremely successful with. The Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) style is highly effective and acts as hook to learning. I make my lessons engaging and relatable, always using real life examples to make the concepts easier to digest. Each lesson begins with a High Intensity Retrieval activity. This is proven to be the most effective way for learning to be consolidated in the long-term memory. The Ebbinghaus forgetting curve explains this in detail. I also update my teaching style to reflect current research to ensure my students get the best deal possible and to deliver results. My classroom experience and leadership of the department has enabled me to have a strong grasp of the Maths curriculum. My sole aim is to help dedicated students better their target grade whilst having fun and enjoying the process at the same time. I am in the perfect place to provide you with real value. Together, I want to help you reach whatever goals you have in mind. Whether you want some extra assistance around exam techniques or a long-term guide as you make your way through GCSEs, I will be flexible and willing to work with you and around your schedule. With advanced technology available, online tutoring is just as productive and effective as in person.

As an educator with eight years of experience in tutoring, I have had the privilege of working with students of various age groups, backgrounds, and academic levels. This extensive experience has provided me with invaluable insights into the art of teaching, the challenges students face, and the methods that can truly foster growth and learning. Over the years, I have developed a teaching philosophy that is centered on personalized attention, patience, and creating a supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity and self-confidence. One of the key aspects of my tutoring approach is understanding that each student is unique. What works for one may not necessarily work for another. As such, I make it a priority to tailor my teaching methods to the individual needs of my students. Whether they are struggling with complex concepts or simply need guidance to stay on track, I strive to create a learning plan that aligns with their specific goals, strengths, and challenges. This individualized approach allows me to help students build a solid foundation and progressively work toward mastery in their subjects. Another essential part of my teaching style is fostering a growth mindset. I believe that intelligence is not fixed and that with effort, persistence, and the right strategies, students can overcome academic challenges. Encouraging students to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth has proven to be a powerful motivator. I focus not just on academic achievement but also on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will benefit students beyond the classroom. In my experience, this mindset shift can transform the way students approach learning—making them more resilient, motivated, and confident. Communication is also at the heart of my tutoring sessions. I make it a point to be clear, concise, and open in my explanations, ensuring that students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing any confusion they may have. This open line of communication helps me gauge where students might be struggling and address misunderstandings before they become obstacles. It also helps build rapport and trust, which is essential for an effective teacher-student relationship. One of the most rewarding aspects of my tutoring experience has been the opportunity to see students progress and succeed. Whether it's a student who struggled with basic concepts finally mastering them, or a high schooler preparing for exams and achieving the grades they had hoped for, witnessing their growth has been incredibly fulfilling. It is a constant reminder of why I chose this profession in the first place—to make a positive impact on students’ lives and contribute to their academic and personal development. Over the years, I have honed my skills and adapted to new educational technologies and methodologies. I have learned how to integrate online resources, interactive learning tools, and multimedia into my tutoring sessions to make lessons more engaging and effective. Whether in person or virtually, I strive to create a dynamic and enriching learning experience that makes education enjoyable and rewarding. In conclusion, my eight years of tutoring have allowed me to refine my teaching practices and develop a deep understanding of what it takes to help students succeed. I continue to grow as an educator, always striving to be patient, empathetic, and adaptable to meet the diverse needs of my students. Ultimately, my goal as a tutor is to empower students, helping them not only to achieve academic success but to develop a lifelong love of learning.
